Caring for poly furniture, the simple way

People ask Dad what special cleaner they should buy for their new glider. He usually laughs and says, "A garden hose." Poly lumber is not fussy — it wants soap and water, not a chemistry set.

The everyday routine

  • Wipe it down with mild soap and water — a soft brush for the textured spots.
  • Hose it off after pollen season and it looks new again.
  • For stubborn marks, a melamine sponge or a diluted bleach mix is safe — the color runs all the way through the board.

Leave it out

Poly does not absorb water, so there is nothing to swell, crack, or rot. Rain, snow, and sun are all fine — the UV protection is compounded into the material itself.

If it’s Billt right, the only maintenance is enjoying it.

Every few years

Check the stainless hardware and snug anything that has worked loose from years of gliding. That is the whole list.
